Shree: Learning from family
Many
things in life need to be observed and accepted without any conditions or
judgments – a kind of calmness and a quality of compassion may arise from this
tendency. Compassion perhaps then means a perspective to remain non judgmental
and to realize that human beings are subjected to tendencies of “vibrations”
that surface as perceptions and responses and to which we expect certain
control and thereby causing pain or pleasure. Are these tendencies right or
wrong is a question that is supposed to be surpassed, since holding on to the
question itself indicates an expectation from us to have situations in a
certain way; in certain frequencies and in certain character. We aren’t the
doer of anything and it is the presence of consciousness that generates this
motion and dynamics of change. So there is no right or wrong in any
manifestation – it is divine by its cause and effect.
My
mother cannot talk clearly because of Parkinson and she requires assistance at
all times by everyone at organic times and for anything. Why should I feel pain
for this? At one end I know I am helpless to do anything or to even stop the
condition – but it is a clear expectation on my part to make life comfortable
for myself and at the same time an indication of attachment. This is selfish no
doubt in one dimension, but it may also be a lesson to be learnt for me. But if
I let her be as she is then I do not expect anything and I remain calm, since it
is a phenomenon where nobody is responsible but a phenomenon in itself which keeps
changing to some eventuality, within which also the journey is unique to her
and me (as manifestations). So the greatest love will be to let things
happen the way they do without any purposeful interference or any compulsions
to change.
This
is applicable to any situation. My father too because of age, convulsions, start
of dementia responds in unpredictable, undependable ways. He will appear
anxious, stressed and cling sharply to many things which may appear trivial to
us. He is entering into a zone where the definition of logic itself will be
changing – that of perception, responses, people and situations. What do you
say for this? How is one supposed to respond to his condition? How is it
supposed to improve? What is to be expected from us? There is no answer in
simple terms or logical terms or clear terms. Again, being non judgmental for
him seems to be a less stressful approach. The core of all things means
that I need to be non judgmental about “myself” or the idea of what is me and
why am I here and what does my existence mean?
Drop
this background question or go beyond this question and a huge burden seems to
be lifted. So we had created a burden ourselves and the burden is generated by considering
us mortal beings having mind and body and being attached to this perception. We
consider our perception as a default reality and that is a mistake – the human
perception being treated as something absolute. Perception will change in our
lives and it will also change in next zone of existence between two lives. And
perception means mind, which means existence, which means “isness”.
So we can alter or create reality in whatever manner is appropriate. Reality or
existence is already there – shaping it in ways that seems correct is our duty.
