Rethink

In architecture, there is a place for privacy but should not be imagined as an absolute right for independence or having nothing to do with relations or connections. The idea of 'freedom' is taken mistakenly to this concept and the more freedom one tries to have, the more stressed one becomes.

Architecturally too, privacy of self is contained with all sorts of relationships that get perceived by the mind - such as climate, traditions, being, community, relations, livelihood and so on. To have privacy means to also acknowledge the full range of relationships that _generate_ privacy.

We sense that happening in tribals, indigenous and vernacular communities. Hence it is regarded as something profound. The "form of architecture" expresses this relationship. Unfortunately the term vernacular, indigenous or tribal is used in a derogatory sense or at the other extreme - something exotic ( so you need not bother about what it makes you critically assess!!).

Architecture in developed nations- what is the nature of relationships that it expresses? And fundamentally, does such an architecture give you or offer a peaceful feeling?

When I still recall, at times, the experience of being in Vancouver, most public spaces weren't even public in spirit or offered hardly any solace. Same with any apartment complex.

There is a huge history to the manner in which spaces generate a particular perception.

The narrative of 'progress' has taken us for a royal ride!

A big rethink, is required.
