intellect has a character of its own - it will analyse and decode a situation as variables in the equation and sequence it for optimal effect. any point can be a start point which results in linking and perception of a situation. in other words - perception is establishing variables, connections and sequences within them. so there seems to be visibility, change and movement as far as intellect is concerned.
intellect is a tendency of analysis with an intent. that intent may be generated from ego or from consciousness. with ego, we are saying control of all changes. this control has affected architecture too - technologically, in terms of scale (human to gigantic); modes of production (hand done to manufacturing); resource management (local to global); public to privatisation of all spaces and then to fragmentation; transitional spaces to completely transparent to heavily guarded to smart systems; transitional or changing to completely static to imitating organicness.
there are two things that seem to be happening here - as human perception, acceptance of change in space and time and tendencies and multiplicity is fundamental. acceptance for slowness, transitions, is important. by industrial production, modernism and other post modern movements, what seems to have changed is the map of mindscape - from subtle to being highly critical and aggressive. what also may be evident that fundamental core issues of anchoring, privacy and connect and nature cannot be ignored and hence reactions of all kinds (such as "smart") are an indication of that.
finally architecture is not about solving a problem or being critical or making a statement or being self righteous or justifying or taking a position or proving something (again an indication or a response to what seems to be happening around). Can it be pure delight?
shouldn't it?
