On Becoming!....

On Becoming!....

A fundamental thought to decode –
Behind every existential thought – is greed….but should it?
A dedicated focus on this realization for years, will reveal what is ‘Time’, who creates ‘Time’, what is ego/mind/ me/ myself, where does ‘thought’ occur, what is ‘thought’ ?
Consciousness, of any kind, is the realization of Being situated in a neutral space. The birth of the Being starts the phenomenon of thoughts – that gives rise to the experience we call – existence. Thus, existence (as a meaning) has a potential to take the individual sense of ‘Being’ to ‘Universal idea of cosmos’ (beyond one’s body and mind). AS long as we identify with our own limited sense of Being, we do not understand the world completely and are misguided by incomplete understanding of reality. In Hindu scriptures, this is called as “Maya”. The English language translation is Illusion. We can call it Imagination.
Thought is so subtle and because it is subtle, it is the hardest to control. When we say, ”just imagine!...”, that is what we are completely immersed in for our entire lives! The whole experience of existence is nothing but an imagination! (and hence, the virtual nowadays seems same as the ‘real’ – or the question is - what IS actually ‘Real’, or is ‘Real’ what we create for ourselves?). Does reality exist outside our identification with ‘Being’? And if it does, what is the experience?
Above is the central concern of philosophy. This concern takes place because of man choosing to understand the relationship of his existence with the outside events. Both seem to be related because we choose to relate. But for what? For our survival. Then what is survival? Frankly speaking, I don’t know. We can partly answer the question – how does this need for survival get created? And to make us survive, we ‘fear’ our separateness from the Unknown. The fear leads to compulsion of control/ greed/ violence/ ego/ time/ movement. As long as we identify with this gross dimension, we remain swayed by the belief in Fear factor. Resistance to Fear is not possible. And to go with Fear will only exaggerate it. Then what is the solution?
The solution lies in observing how the mind plays tricks. How does it create attachment, compels us to do things, creates desires, creates goals and makes us run. Yes, this will continue and can’t be stopped. Noone is saying to stop. However, the issue is to realize a dimension in ourself which is beyond the mind (or the mind being a subset of a Higher Dimension).
We can only realize this potential, if we practice it daily in our thoughts, actions.
How do we do? This makes me introduce the idea of “intention”. As explained at the start, if we are unaware of our deep intention of operating because of Fear, we continue to strengthen Fear. All our motives, processes and products – ask yourself what is the intention behind what you choose to do? Very powerful question. You will soon realize how deep rooted this intention of exercising Fear is! Thus, the ideal solution to this tendency is to change the nature of intention itself, so you operate from a different dimension. Easier said that done! In other words, to train the mind to expand its horizon to go beyond body and connect with the cosmos. Anything that encourages empathy, assistance, ethics, morality – will lead us there. Think beyond yourself.
The idea of “common good” or the “welfare of all” (Dharma or doing the Right Thing) is beyond our petty differences, petty contexts and pettiness of identifying with ourselves. Nishkaam Karma – thinking and acting beyond petty expectations. We focus ourselves to such an extent, that we ‘forget’ our grip on our ego itself! By repeated practice (for years and perhaps for many lives) of such an action, the ego doesn’t arise at all. If there’s no ego, there’s no fear.
Focus on ideas that have remained for eternity – those ideas that are no one’s copyrights but are discovered from Existence themselves.
This is the highest level of progress of the human mind. This is who we are and what we can become! The journey is about Becoming! The rest, as they say – are only a clown’s movements!
