Shree: The role of feelings
Shree: The role of
feelings
I do not need to
know the past or future to do something out of love at the given moment! This is
the strength of love – that it can be perfectly unconditional, non linear and
empathetic and all connecting. Knowing the variables of connections of change
and of past and future do not generate love automatically or even logically or
even consequently! Living a perfect life is not equivalent in loving the self
and others!
Love is
fundamental. In architecture for me, it means what should I do while designing
an environment that can generate this feeling? The approach comes to designing a
movement, sequence, being aware of the “presence” of everything around you and
becoming calm within space-time matrix. This means I should start
anywhere and do whatever it takes to get that feeling – forms of manifestation
(or styles of any kind) are immaterial. In design studios, can’t one therefore
perceive forms in this manner instead of comparing and adhering to what looks “acceptable”?
The feeling of love is more fundamental than what is built or seen or said or
acted upon. The feeling is perceiving a state of existence.
Lot of talk and
progress of theory and practice and day to day living seem to go in opposition to
what is fundamental! What use is of theory or practice if it fails to generate
love?
Order, discipline,
systems have also driven societies to deadly uniformity and sterility and
uneasiness and anonymity and numbness or placelessness. Ordering of feelings
and keeping them under some compartments is more horrible. By compartmentalizing
feelings, one compartmentalizes moments of existence and even avoids certain
experiences or situations or people that would have otherwise healed you along
the way! Why does one do this?
This is an intimate
inquiry. And this is done as a response of ego. Defending oneself against
change is one of ego’s top priorities. By structuring things and variables, it emphasizes
refinement, fastness, permanence, control and so on. It emphasizes permanence
and something that is predictable and easy to control. It is opposite of “life”!
Certain conditions –
such as young ones or elder’s health are beyond ego’s control. None of the
fields of inquiry are able to deal with situations – what is required is
acceptance and understanding of existence with love. If one has this awareness,
then one becomes blissful. Herein too, one is assuming something in the
spectrum of perception of control and anything that lies beyond (say past lives
or inner world) as something beyond control and even not worth pondering! If one
does not perceive “something”, that does not mean “it” doesn’t exist! And the
only way to acknowledge the presence of this “something” is to trust it without
any parameters of perception. And by this, we learn to trust everything. Hence trust
becomes more important than perception.
