Hobby
Everyone requires a”hobby” – meaning something to be engaged with. There may not be any person (or any life form) who is not engaged in doing anything. In other words, action/ engagement/ thought / force is a default nature of manifestation. There is a “force”, hence there is matter to undertake action. Matter can also be seen as a medium of force itself. One can even say that force creates matter and this matter responds to other matter through the medium of force! In effect all takes place through different natures and intensities of forces – some behaving as external forces and some behaving as internal forces that appear as matter itself. Matter may also be regarded as a skin of perception. The root of all force at any scale and intensity is consciousness. This may be seen as the root ‘cause’ of everything. This may be seen as a tendency to vibrate.
There is vibration, so there is motion, so there is manifestation and therefore there is perception and response and engagement. The compulsion to remain engaged with action is because of the belief in a separate life form. We term these tendencies as desires, insecurity, incompleteness, fear and so on. Analyzing this belief further is the inquiry of the body and senses, the impulses or electrical signals, the mind stuff and the intellectual faculty to comprehend what’s going on. The physiological dimension and psychological impression of the same are interrelated. An electrical impulse will create an impression of thought and vice versa. Thought will create imagination or a construct of mind (force) which is tied down to performance or action. What we call as “mind” is a function of our life form. It is a particular form of force. This means that other kinds of forces also exist simultaneously and were already present even before we took on this life form!
Every minuscule thought or a wave creates an imprint. These lead to perception of what is good or bad, labels, judgements, expectations, competition, aggression and so on.
There is another way of looking at this tendency – that of a magnet. Physically, as consciousness vibrates, it condenses to form matter and as it condenses, imagination or memory develops. So memory, engagement or imagination or thought – these are modified forms of all pervading consciousness. Consciousness has contracted by vibration to create thought and a form. Being tied with a form and its limitation is a characteristic of thought, isn’t it? This feeling of being pulled down by body or outwards towards a situation by senses makes the mind” heavy” and limited in its awareness about existence. Then it only receives set signals and keeps becoming heavier. This is illusion or compulsion or a state of reality – all those judgements and expectations and desires and the ideas of pleasure and pain and all the running around. So the effort to be undertaken is to make the mind light and give off its steam of energy – to transcend the body, to become subtle and subtle, to reach the tranquillity of consciousness that is universal. This also means to make the mind “steady”, to make the force dissolve.
Above description of what happens in physical terms and psychological terms can be felt in our daily experience too. I am a person, I perceive a situation, a relationship, I get angry when things don’t turn out “my” way and I feel sad when things turn out of control and I blame something. Then I worry, I over think, I plan and I act and I expect. The entire life is spent by being embedded in the assumption of the reality of body (or a particular life form). Then I hoard things for want of security and it doesn’t offer any. I try to arrest change, but I fail miserably and then I give up or harbour hatred. What is going on?! Has this question been asked within us? Why should we feel incomplete and keep running and for what? The inquiry to these questions will lead one to spiritual lessons of consciousness and manifestation into space-force-matter.
The antidote to fear is compassion to all. This is described either in terms of renunciation (of the illusion or the extra baggage) or infinite expansion of love to all of manifestation so it does not remain limited to only one form of life. Both mean the same. Renunciation of things that limit our belief means expanding the circle of love and empathy to all life forms. This is the only working approach to feeling of bliss. By doing so, there is no clinging, no desires generating from a body, no expectation, and no hobby. It is just Being.
So give up expecting things. Any time is as much a good time as anything else. There is no perfect situation in the future nor there was in the past – all are imaginations. Past and future and the meanings associated with them are constructs as well. And any situation, no matter how much challenging it may seem, is good enough to realize our true nature. Next time as we perceive a situation or a person, consider what feelings we generate within us. It is not the situation or the person that is real, but the inner vibration that erupts within us. This creates an association. So again, the form of manifestation and its effect is dependent on the quality of our perception. Be still and there will be no reaction to anything –all will be blissful.
And finally, trust consciousness. Offer everything to this phenomenon and do not take any credit. Ego is the strongest of forces that needs to be curbed or dissolved. It is present at all scales of thoughts – to the obvious to the most subtle. So accept everything as it comes – there is always a reason behind these signals. Share and love – the ego will dissolve eventually.
