Shree: birth of proof

Shree: birth of proof

As a linear or a causal perspective, it may be possible to talk about the pattern, tendency, inclination of demanding "proof" for self and others. ( Architecturally I may equate this phenomenon to 'The search for a form...' by Eliel Saarinnen where the discovery or expression of form has expressed different patterns with the evolution of humanity).

What we call as proof might be considered as a progression of that _search_ and hence the idea or the compulsion of seeking proof has a very long history and has its origins in very subtle states too. This is one thing....the search for "roots" and the construct of "linear time" and therefore "scientific thought" or "objectivity" as a basis of defining truth or unbiased explanation of the phenomenon.

Another revelation is the more reliance on the intellectual (logical) dimension, the more is the inclination to become full proof in articulation and expression. This may have have many repercussions in imagination and with it, the architectural form making intentions - movement, proportions, organization, even methods of finding solutions and even the definitions of intangible stuffs and how they are required to "fit" in the puzzle!...nothing ought to be "missed out", else solutions can't be evaluated or judged and all gets doomed! An analysis of "methods of inspiration" (in a historical sense) in design may definitely yield surprising revelations. History of Architecture - rituals and settings by Spiro Kostof suggests environment as an inspiration over spatial settings and activities. Do we even consider environment now? What is the idea of this term in current times?

Add to this obviously is the demand for production, intensive output, faster pace, shorter span of produce, speed and so on.

Self consciousness ( renaissance and post that period) may have forcefully determined the role of thoughts and it's desperate need to do everything. The fix intended was outward. But, over the centuries, the "fix" after having established a causal link with the inner world, has also turned "inward" with a vengeance! That has perpetually left us forever battered or bruised!

God help us!

There is actually nothing to "fix". Fixing is an attitude born from separation from phenomenon. Phenomenon leads to us and not the other way round. The origin of action doesn't radiate from us, but gets _revealed_ through us.
