Awareness and its effects are. They do not require anything to prove. One can see their “effects” in terms of movements or formations or creations or vibrations. Many, many things get created, fragmented, joined, connected, dissolved in the process. And as this gets done (as Action), the process also creates force of perception and analysis and feelings. Movement therefore does not remain neutral but affects a “form” of being. This individual form is connected or interdependent with all other forms, forces, states of being. So, Identity is interconnected and relative and cosmic as well. The mind is a tool of creating and it takes on a form of awareness – either as cosmos or as a form. All is not separated but a combination and connection of everything and of changing forces. All of these create an action of movement or of “change” or of “perception” or of “imagination”. And this may also include many things that one refers as tendencies, patterns, histories, scales, environment, past, future, relations, place and time. All is in the mind. All is a shaping of an encounter of things that come and go. All exist as consciousness.

Shree: Present
Present is a feeling of dwelling as a form of existence – so it will “create” may connections out of the property of vibrations that it harnesses – this depends on awareness. It has always been about existence and how that expresses in terms of our ‘own’ awareness. From that perspective everything becomes an encounter of vibrations, intellect, feelings and from that any phenomenon or a pattern of geography or environment or any concept of the self and may generate presence of cosmos, ancestors, belonging, connections, social relations, mythology, and meaning…all this rolled into the self. Self is ‘not’ an individual. An individual is a construct just as a community can also be a construct. Hence whether individual is a good way of living as compared to a tribal mindset is not the inquiry here – since both are forms of self. The more important inquiry would be what form of self becomes peaceful to dwell and this is either a historical idea or something to be discovered every time. So the second approach would be more phenomenological than historical, although history may offer some clues to the principles of dwelling. Present or past or future hence is a historical idea or is a phenomenological one and unless it isn’t acknowledged as a phenomenological idea, we may not find answers to the most relevant aspects of dwelling.

Shree: The Future
Following are some of the thoughts that probably suggest an approach that seems to build up:
There is an extreme force of fragmentation and introversion that is going to get enhanced in the coming future. Do not arrest it. The effects of such a force are going to be phenomenal – from isolation to silence to explosion of uncontrolled desires, revolt, toppling of any power equations, hand fisting, violence and so on. Controlling such a prediction is not in our hands and it need not bother us. This means to realise a sense of belonging in this changing mentalscape and explore it individually – through feelings or intellect or action or relations or routine or action. Further than that, not self evaluate despite whatever responses may come from any action undertaken by the self.
This also means to acknowledge that change is larger than the sum total of individual perceptions and no matter what an individual may think proper, the result still cannot be fully comprehended and hence ok to be as it is.
Thoughts, feelings and sequences based on any logic of imagined past or future may probably not matter much or may not remain relevant. That does not mean anything about the feeling of “self”. Self (or existence) is ABOVE any context or any conditions, hence this will be a very important realization.
Things come to us when they have to; we act when we are required to; response happens when it should – all things happen. There need not be any expectation to come or to go or to collaborate or to form – they would happen.
If staying sane may be about only talking or listening or both, then that should also be allowed to happen without thinking of any probable output.

Shree: The “genie”
Introversion is a process seen in everyone or that of self absorption. This is seen in built environment, public spaces, use of spaces, activities, responses, relationships and imagination. There are two dimensions of introversion behaviour:
The first is self absorption and continuous engagement with internal issues of control – leading to sometimes anxiety and stress. The internal world, it seems, is assumed to have no relationship with the intensity, presence, rate of change and encounter with outside reality.
This manifests as inability to cope with changes in environment and shunning any external signals – seen as distractions. The result is dead environments, general apathy to engage collectively and downright aloofness towards doing anything for any external agent. That causes surveillance and systems to assume prime importance over outside spaces and to assist in uninterrupted engagement of the individual in the inner world of signals. So the emails, and tables, whatsapps and phones, and countless apps to keep a tab on things. Does that ‘fix’ anything?! The question is also true to any scale of existence – be that an individual or a family unit or a neighbourhood or a city or a nation.
By adopting this current position, we create new set of problems, for which, solutions are required to be found or discovered.
There is a critique for following one’s basal desires since this is one of the outputs that we have landed as humanity! Even if all desires are fulfilled by the “genie” of technology, will that generate a satisfied life? The “genie” is the expectation itself that we hold. If there remains no expectations, there is no need for a “genie”.

Shree: rest,
movement and encounter
Studio makes one
ponder on some aspects of existence. Public or common spaces in most of the
developed regions look probably ‘dead’ in life. That initiates an inquiry what
do we mean by life nourishing and is it got to do with actions or form or
planning or working together as a process or other things?
The perspective on
dead spaces has a very long history. One academic historical dimension comes
from ‘The Fall of a Public Space’ which argues how the idea of “publicness” has
been overtaken by “individualism” by changes brought forth by various factors
of culture, economy, place, time, media, architecture and so on. Lie has a
dimension of “connection” and “togetherness” and they enrich the individual as
well as the collective. When the effort seems to get geared only on the
individual, the collective holds no real significance and such spaces then
appear or feel ‘dead’ because our consciousness has a hard time to connect with
the idea of a public space. Again, why does that happen is an inquiry. The book
argues that such a change was incidental and not deliberately planned and that
is the nature of “change” that it is always going to remain - that we do not
know the complete picture and we act based on our perceptions, which are
nevertheless incomplete so there always remains a voice of critique. This I can
ask philosophically is that the reason why we remain ‘worried’ or create
‘worry’ as a vibration?! And what does that indicate about our awareness of
existence?!
So if above is an
inquiry, then the solution may lie in discovering how connections that are life
nourishing can be initiated in contemporary times. This is a personal inquiry,
not a system based one.
Another dimension
of above development is - have we harboured those tendencies from the beginning
that got further consolidated into gigantic scales and hardened systems? So, is
it an ahistorical process? One can argue that the entire history of European
society and American society is based on tendencies of control, exploitation,
surveillance, production, profit, greed, economy, power and so on. Those seem
to be the dominant expressions and hence have found reflections in cities or
forms of design and relationships in that manner. So, an immigrant going to
such places of encounter – what does he/she encounter as an existential
experience?
This then initiates
even further inquiry on the role of senses and the forms that developed on
their active vs passive engagement. Are architectural forms a reflection of the
nature of engagement of the senses? I am not really sure. And if that can be
found as a case, then we are saying that any space ought to make one “feel”
comfortable and secured. Is this feeling dependent on senses and their
interaction with the environment? How does one essential make sense of the world
of encounter? And does that then refer to rest, movement and encounter?
And what do senses “show” – only a physical form or does the “encounter” takes
one’s perception to feelings and cosmic dimension? So such terms have sacred
dimension and not just physical.
